Massachusetts Superior Court Rule 48: Judgments and Decrees after Default for Failure to Appear in Civil Actions

While Federal Resolutions and statutes relative to relief for members of the armed forces of the United States remain in force, no judgment against a person shall be entered upon a default for failure to appear and no decree nisi for divorce shall be entered after such default, except as provided in said Resolutions and statutes, or by special order of the court.

No attorney who has appeared for a personal defendant shall withdraw his appearance, leaving his client unrepresented, except upon his filing a certificate setting forth facts showing that his client is not in the armed forces of the United States, or upon leave granted by the court.
